The snowfall has also kept the police in the canton of Fribourg on their toes. Since Thursday, the patrols have carried out almost a hundred operations in collaboration with the civil engineering office and the highway maintenance service.
Several trucks, buses and other vehicles were parked across roads and on the A12 highway. This did not make it easy for the breakdown and snow clearing vehicles, according to a statement from the Fribourg cantonal police on Friday.
A number of vehicles had also been driving with inadequate winter equipment. The police recorded around 20 traffic accidents. In most cases, only material damage was caused. One person was slightly injured.
The emergency services also responded to more than a dozen incidents involving fallen trees and similar damage.
