3000 people sought advice from the Alzheimer's telephone last year. The Alzheimer's hotline has been advising people affected by dementia, their relatives, carers and other interested parties for 20 years now, as the Alzheimer's Switzerland organization announced on Tuesday.

According to Stefanie Becker, Director of Alzheimer's Switzerland, the national Alzheimer's telephone helpline is used in different ways: as a hotline in crisis situations, for reassurance or simply as a source of information. According to the press release, many callers ask questions about supporting relatives with the disease, especially about how to organize everyday life.

Experts can also be contacted by email, letter or social media, although the vast majority of people seeking advice (84%) contacted them by telephone.

Relatives were the most frequent callers to the Alzheimer's hotline last year: 42 percent were daughters, sons, daughters-in-law and sons-in-law. A good fifth were life partners. 15 percent were medical professionals. Only rarely did dementia sufferers call in themselves; they made up two percent of callers.

Alzheimer Switzerland says it is committed to a good life with dementia.
