The Federal Supreme Court has rejected an appeal against the mandatory financial referendum against an amendment to the law on the pension fund of the Canton of Ticino. The people will therefore decide on the amendment to the law on June 9. This was announced by the Ticino government on Wednesday.

The amendment to the law involves the introduction of compensation measures in favor of members of the state pension fund. The measures are intended to cushion the planned pension cuts.

The Ticino cantonal parliament approved the measures in October last year. The "Network for the Defense of Pensions" (ErreDiPi) subsequently lodged an appeal with the Federal Supreme Court against Parliament's intention to subject the revision of the law to a mandatory financial referendum.

This means that the Ticino electorate will vote on the revised law on June 9.

In addition to the revision of the law on the cantonal pension fund, the amendment to the tax law and the decision on the acquisition of a large building in Lugano, which is subject to a mandatory referendum, will also be put to the ballot. The former Banca del Gottardo building is to be made available to the cantonal justice authority.
