In the Nanz VS region, a wolf can be shot. The Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (Bafu) approved a regulation request from the canton of Valais, as announced on Friday. The Valais Department of Hunting, Fishing and Wildlife and the Bafu determined that all conditions for the regulation were met, according to the canton. The threshold for the number of killed livestock was exceeded and the presence of a pack was confirmed. The shooting permit is valid until March 31, 2024, as stated in the announcement. In the Nanz region, 56 livestock were killed in the last four months. The analysis of the cantonal monitoring by the Bafu confirmed the presence of a pack currently consisting of two wolf cubs. The shooting rate is linked to the reproduction of the pack: no more than two-thirds of the cubs born in the year can be shot. The parents must be spared. The gamekeepers can therefore reduce the pack's population by one cub.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
