The cities of Basel, Bern and Zurich will not be implementing a joint app for public transport after all. The reason is that the costs are too high. This was announced jointly by the three cities on Wednesday.
The three cities would be open to other opportunities to participate in such an app in the future. The aim is to make it as easy as possible for travelers to switch to sustainable modes of transport, the statement continued.
At the end of 2022, the three cities of Basel, Bern and Zurich announced their intention to test a joint app with their public transport companies. The aim was to create a joint platform for arranging, booking and paying for mobility services. The joint app should have made it easier to plan journeys using different modes of transport and combine them.
At the beginning of January, the Basel government announced its intention to contribute CHF 5 million to the joint app. According to information at the time, the total budgeted costs of the project amounted to around CHF 18 million by 2028.
