Eva Herzog (SP) has been re-elected as the representative of the Canton of Basel-Stadt in the small chamber for the next four years. She achieved an impressive 42,677 votes, 13,469 more than the absolute majority of 29,208. This is the highest number of votes achieved in the last 40 years. Her two challengers, Balz Herter (Mitte) and Pascal Messerli (SVP), received 6,959 and 6,730 votes respectively, while Eric Weber (Rechtsaussen) received 974. The turnout was 51.43%, 2% higher than four years ago.

Herzog expressed her delight at the result, saying that it was motivating to know that a large part of the population was behind her. She intends to continue to fight for an open Switzerland and more representation for the region in the small chamber, especially in light of the loss of a National Council seat. This makes it important for Basel to form alliances. Herzog was elected to the Council of States in 2019, succeeding Anita Fetz (SP). Her result this year was even more impressive than four years ago, when she achieved 37,230 votes.
