The Basel-Stadt canton is expecting a budget surplus of 52 million Swiss francs in 2024, which is lower than the 84 million francs surplus budgeted for the current year. This decrease is mainly due to the implementation of the tax package approved in a referendum in March, which will reduce tax payments by 112 million francs. Despite this, the canton is expecting an increase in tax revenues of 80 million francs, as well as one-off tax revenues of 50 million francs due to companies liquidating their reserves at lower tax rates. On the expenditure side, contributions to the national financial equalisation are expected to increase by 16 million francs to 198 million francs. Inflation on wages and state contributions will also have a negative effect, increasing expenditure by 45 million francs. The financial plan for the next three years predicts deficits of between 26 and 63 million francs, although this does not take into account the effects of the OECD tax reform with its higher profit tax rates. The government will attempt to prevent a budget with red numbers.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
