Baume-Schneider Supports the Ban on Demonstrations in Zurich and Basel

Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, the Swiss Federal Councillor, expressed her trust in the cities and cantons that have imposed demonstrations bans in response to the current Middle East conflict. Zurich and Basel have both imposed bans on demonstrations related to the conflict, with Basel banning all demonstrations. Baume-Schneider believes that the decisions were made based on "sound analysis" and trusts that the cantons and cities have weighed the freedom of expression against the prohibition of islamophobic and anti-Semitic demonstrations. In light of the Middle East conflict, the level of security and vigilance has been raised to a maximum in Switzerland. Baume-Schneider confirmed that various embassies and infrastructure have been placed under protection without providing further details.
