Block 1 of the Beznau nuclear power plant in the canton of Aargau can be started up after an inspection lasting several weeks. The nuclear supervisory authority Ensi has granted the corresponding approval.
The work was carried out in accordance with the regulations and the radiation protection regulations were complied with, the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (Ensi) wrote on its website on Wednesday.
According to the Ensi, maintenance and renewal work as well as tests and inspections of components and systems were carried out during the inspection in addition to the refuelling. The Beznau 1 nuclear power plant also carried out the pressure test of the containment. The test must be carried out at least every ten years and is monitored by Ensi.
The reactor pressure vessel is enclosed by the containment as a third barrier. This consists of a primary containment made of steel and a secondary containment made of concrete.
At the end of March, Axpo announced that the clarifications were about technical feasibility. Safety is the top priority and is not negotiable.
