A 47-year-old British tourist died in a skiing accident near Champéry in Valais on Wednesday. He was one of two skiers who were skiing together with a snowboarder on a closed piste in the Portes du Soleil ski resort in the morning.

According to the Valais cantonal police, the accident occurred at around 09:45. The two skiers and a snowboarder were skiing on the Chavannettes piste, which was closed at the time due to icing.

For unknown reasons, one of them fell and slid several hundred meters down the steep slope. Despite receiving first aid, the 47-year-old, who lived in the UK, died at the scene of the accident.

The police warned of dangers in ski resorts in a press release on Thursday. Ski slopes are marked to indicate the level of difficulty of the slopes. The different colors are primarily to be understood as recommendations, it said. On the slopes, the personal responsibility of each individual is therefore paramount.
