Bund Launches Pilot Project with Information on Mastodon

The Swiss Federal Chancellery is running a pilot program to test the use of the decentralized and privacy-friendly social media platform Mastodon. The program will run for one year and will be used by the Federal Council and federal administration to reach parts of the population that are difficult to reach on other channels. The Federal Chancellery will have an official account, as will the Federal Departments of Foreign Affairs, Interior, and Economy, Education and Research. Mastodon is attractive to the government for its decentralised structure, which prevents it from being controlled by a single company or subject to censorship, and its privacy-friendly approach, with many operators being transparent about data usage and not selling user data.
