Cancellation of events relieves the army budget by around 3.5 million

The cancellation of two major events and several smaller events will relieve the army budget by around CHF 3.5 million. Chief of the Armed Forces Thomas Süssli said this to the media in Bern on Thursday. The army had decided to cancel the events in order to focus on its defense capabilities.
The army is currently working on settling the liquidity bottlenecks caused by the postponed budget increase, said Süssli. They are currently working on solutions for the year 2025.
The really big armaments projects, such as Air2030, are being looked at, added Gerhard Jakob, Chief Financial Officer of the Armed Forces. Possibilities are being sought to make the payment tranches more flexible, he said. This would have no impact on delivery times and would not result in additional costs.
