The 2024 Culture Prize of the Canton of Bern goes to the Literaare literature festival in Thun. The festival has made a name for itself for its cultural contributions and the promotion of literature across various genres, as announced by the Bern Department of Culture.
The prize is endowed with 30,000 francs and is intended as recognition for the commitment of a predominantly volunteer team, according to a press release issued by the Department of Culture on Tuesday. The organizers have managed to continuously develop the festival while maintaining the quality of the events.
The "Prix du bilinguisme dans la culture", endowed with CHF 20,000 and awarded for the first time last year, goes to the La Grenouille Theater Centre in Biel/Bienne. According to the press release, the canton of Bern is thus recognizing the "long-standing, consistent practice of bilingualism in the artistic work" of the competence center for young audiences.
Professional dancer and school teacher Lucía Baumgartner has won the cultural mediation prize, and with it 10,000 francs. As the initiator of the dance festival in Thun and the association Tanzvermittlung CH, among other things, she has encouraged people to dance, the canton added.
The three prizes will be awarded on Monday, August 19 at 7 p.m. at Dispo in Biel.
