Cassis meets Graubünden and Ticino cantonal governments in Schwyz

The cantonal governments of Graubünden and Ticino have discussed the concerns of Switzerland's two smallest language regions with Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis. The trilateral meeting took place on Friday in Schwyz.

According to the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), the focus was on the common interests of Italian- and Romansh-speaking Switzerland.

The topics mentioned by the FDFA were the preservation of Switzerland's diversity and the promotion of minorities and multilingualism. According to the press release, the discussion partners agreed to continue and expand the "Piccolo Erasmus" project, which was launched in 2021. As part of "Piccolo Erasmus", cantonal employees can work in Cassis' department for a period of time.

Cross-border topics

The management of the storms that caused major damage in Misox GR and Maggia Valley TI in the summer was also discussed, according to the press release. Mr. Cassis also reported on the visit by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. Cross-border topics of interest to the two cantons include cultural cooperation, developments on the labor market, transport and energy supply.

According to the FDFA, the Ticino Federal Councillor has been promoting regular political dialog with Italian- and Romansh-speaking Switzerland since his election in 2017.
