Four people were injured in a fire involving a Christmas tree in an apartment in Ecuvillens FR on Monday night. The four tenants were transported to hospital. According to the police, a total of eleven people had to be evacuated.
The fire broke out late on Sunday evening at around 10.20 p.m., the Fribourg cantonal police reported on Monday. The tenants had already brought the fire under control on site. The fire department extinguished the fire and ventilated the premises. The four tenants, a 51-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman, a 13-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl, were treated by paramedics and taken to hospital.
The tenants of the damaged apartment had to be accommodated elsewhere, the statement continued. The residents who were evacuated as a precaution were able to return to their homes during the night. From the findings on site, it appears that Bengali matches had been lit on a Christmas tree, which had started the fire. The amount of property damage caused was not initially estimated.
