City of Zurich asks employees about menstrual cramps

The city of Zurich has announced a survey on menstrual cramps in the workplace. The aim is to remove the taboo from the subject. The survey should also reveal whether or not menstrual leave is needed for city employees.
All "potentially affected employees" up to the age of 55 are to be surveyed, as the city announced on Monday. The survey is intended to show how many people suffer from severe and regular menstrual cramps and how they experience the situation at work. The survey begins today, Monday, and will run for four weeks.
Dispensing for severe pain
The survey was triggered by a postulate in the city parliament calling for paid dispensations for severe and regular menstrual cramps. The motion, which was referred to the city council, proposes a pilot test.
The survey is confidential, emphasized the city. It only receives an anonymized evaluation at a city-wide level. This would make it impossible to draw conclusions about individuals. The results should be available at the beginning of 2025. The city council will then examine the need for further action.
