A 24-year-old man admitted to assaulting a prostitute at Zurich District Court on Wednesday. He wanted to choke her to unconsciousness in order to steal from her, he said.
The public prosecutor's office accuses the Brazilian of strangling the woman twice to the point of unconsciousness in June 2018. He then robbed her so that he could fly to Spain.
His ex-girlfriend was there, as the accused said in court on Wednesday. He would have fled if the woman had stayed on the ground after the first choking, the 24-year-old explained. However, she regained consciousness, whereupon he choked her so hard that foam formed in front of her mouth.
He explained his actions with "many chaotic thoughts". He had thought she had died. After the crime, he fled to Brazil. When he tried to travel to Switzerland in 2021, he was arrested in Portugal. It is not yet clear when the verdict will be handed down.
