Co-President of the Yes Committee suspects mobilization problem

The probable "no" to the highway expansion comes as a surprise to Fabio Regazzi, a member of the Ticino Council of States. A few years ago, such a vote would have been easily won. It is possible that there has been a "certain change" in society.
The many hours of congestion are a problem for the economy, said Regazzi, a member of the Ticino Council of States, in an interview with Swiss radio SRF on Sunday: "I find it difficult to understand why this was not understood."
Regazzi is also President of the Swiss Trade Association (SGV) and in this role was Co-President of the Yes Committee. According to Regazzi, it is still too early for a definitive analysis. However, one possible reason for the referendum defeat was that the left-green camp mobilized better: "We had difficulties. Only a few cantons were affected. It was not so easy to convince people in the other cantons."
Susanne Vincenz-Stauffacher, FDP National Councillor from St. Gallen, was also disappointed. "It's difficult for me to digest and difficult to explain," she told SRF television. For her home town of St. Gallen, a third tunnel tube through the Rosenberg would have been crucial for the quality of life.
