Company bankruptcies increase significantly in November

As in previous months, the number of company bankruptcies in Switzerland has continued to rise. According to the business information service Dun & Bradstreet, the number of insolvency proceedings climbed by as much as 37% year-on-year in November.
A total of 512 companies filed their balance sheets in November, according to a statement on Thursday. In November 2022, the figure was just 374. This brings the total number of company bankruptcies in the months from January to November to 4,751, an increase of 9 percent compared to the same period last year. An increase was observed in all regions.
The most significant increases were recorded in Eastern Switzerland (+17%), Espace Mittelland (+14%) and Northwestern Switzerland (+14%). Ticino (+8%), Central Switzerland (+7%), Zurich (+6%) and Southwestern Switzerland (+3%) fared slightly better.
On the other hand, there were also slightly more start-ups than in the previous year. According to Dun & Bradstreet, the number of companies founded between January and November rose by 4% to 46,936. Young entrepreneurs in Northwestern Switzerland (+8%) and Eastern Switzerland (+6%) were the most start-up-friendly.
