Construction site crane tips over in Uerikon ZH and falls onto construction site

A construction site crane tipped over on Monday morning in Uerikon ZH (municipality of Stäfa): Five construction workers were taken to hospital for a check-up, but no one was seriously injured.

The crane toppled over at around 9.20 a.m. and fell into the construction site on a slope, the Zurich cantonal police announced on Monday. The cause of the accident is still unclear and is now being investigated.

For safety reasons, the subsoil of the construction site is being examined by a structural engineer and a geologist, according to the press release. According to initial estimates, the recovery of the crane is likely to take several days. The damage to property is estimated at several hundred thousand francs.

Together with the Zurich cantonal police, the Stäfa and Meilen fire departments, several rescue services, Zurich building insurance, the cantonal office for waste, water, energy and air, Suva and private companies for structural engineering and geology were deployed. In addition, a police helicopter flew over the scene of the accident to take pictures from the air.
