Consumer sentiment in Switzerland rose slightly in June 2024 compared to the previous month. The monthly consumer sentiment index compiled by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) stood at -37 after -38 points in May.
Compared to the previous year (June 2023), this is exactly 3 points higher, as Seco announced on Friday. The sub-indices "Expected economic development", "Expected financial situation" and "Time for major purchases" are clearly above the previous year's values. In contrast, the sub-index "Past financial situation" has hardly changed.
The index reached its lowest point to date in October 2023, when it slipped to just under -53 points. The last time it was clearly higher was at the beginning of 2022.
Since the beginning of 2024, the consumer sentiment index has been based on monthly surveys conducted by Seco instead of the previous quarterly surveys. These are conducted continuously using online questionnaires, with 2928 people taking part last month.
