In view of global crises and wars, the Federal Council expects growing political and economic pressure on Switzerland. "We are living in a dangerous and volatile transitional period," he concluded in the latest report on the threat situation for Switzerland.
According to the paper published on Wednesday, Switzerland must be prepared to make more solidarity contributions and take political positions. Recent examples include the war in Ukraine and the war between the radical Islamic group Hamas and Israel.
Generally binding global principles of order are eroding, wrote the Federal Council. "Russia will remain the determining factor of uncertainty in Europe for a long time to come." The probability of a military escalation between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah is increasing.
According to the Federal Council, the most likely threat scenario domestically continues to be acts of violence using simple means, perpetrated by jihadist-inspired individuals or groups.
