Dance festival inspires almost 100,000 movement enthusiasts

This year's edition of the dance festival saw a record number of participants. The organizers counted almost 100,000 dancers throughout Switzerland.
Despite the moody weather, the dance festival was an immense success, the organizers wrote in a communiqué on Sunday. A total of over 500 performances were shown over five days and around 600 dance classes were held. Around 20 dance films were shown in the cinema.
In total, there were events in more than 30 cities and municipalities - 14 of them in German-speaking Switzerland. Dance was made accessible and tangible on open stages in pedestrian zones, parks, theaters, museums and shopping centers, according to the press release.
According to the information provided, a wide variety of dance styles were represented - from hip hop to lindy hop from the 1930s, from flamenco to salsa and oriental dances. Regional dance schools and school classes presented their choreographies and 14 dance companies toured the country.
