A panel discussion in the style of a historic "Landsgemeinde" opened the big Bundstag festival in Davos on Saturday morning. The 500th anniversary of the Free State of Graubünden was celebrated. A street festival and a parade in period costumes were on the program for the afternoon.

In the historic Davos town hall, government councillor Carmelia Maissen (center) and Davos mayor Philipp Wilhelm (SP) discussed the topic of "No togetherness without mobility" with representatives from tourism and public transport. Mobility is the leitmotif of the Federal Assembly in Davos. Transport, tourism and migration have shaped Graubünden and Davos for a long time, Wilhelm wrote in the commemorative brochure.

After the discussion event, celebrations are planned for the afternoon on the promenade, which is closed to traffic. Visitors can sample typical dishes from five centuries in a "Walser village" on Arkadenplatz.

Parade and concerts

The highlight of the Davos Bundstag is a historical procession based on a painting by Ernst Ludwig Kircher. It shows the long history of the Walser town in 15 colorful "pictures".

The evening concludes with concerts featuring a wide variety of musical styles. From the Örgeli formation and the yodel choir to up-and-coming young voices and established rock and rap dialect bands, there is something for everyone.

The Confederation Days in Davos are the second of a total of seven Confederation Days in various valleys. The merger of regional leagues in 1524 to form the Free State of the Three Leagues is celebrated. The result was a new state with its own constitution, a forerunner of today's canton of Graubünden. Bundstage were the most important assemblies and formed the highest political authority.
