The Swiss Social Democratic Party (SP) held a party convention in Biel on Saturday, passing a resolution for a more socially just housing policy. Ronja Jansen, former president of the Young Socialists, said it was unacceptable that people should have to sell their last shirt to secure their right to housing. The party members voted to launch a referendum against the proposed changes to tenant protection laws currently being discussed in parliament. They also agreed to support the tenant protection initiative announced by the Tenants' Association. The convention also called for measures to be taken to prevent abusive illegal rents, including spot and periodic checks of rent prices, and the introduction of a rent freeze. Finally, they called for an expansion of public housing. In summary, the SP convention passed a resolution to strengthen tenant protection and expand public housing, with measures to prevent abusive illegal rents.nnnnnnnnnn
