On Wednesday, the Zurich High Court opened the verdict against a 49-year-old man who killed his wife in Zurich Altstetten in 2021. After the verdict was opened, the man went berserk and left the room.
The High Court confirmed the first-instance judgment of the Zurich District Court of October 2023, sentencing the accused to 20 years' imprisonment for murder and threatening behavior. It ordered the Turkish national to be expelled from the country for 15 years.
After the presiding judge had opened the verdict, the defendant demanded the floor. The judge asked him to wait until after the oral statement of reasons, which was to be translated especially for him. The defendant then spoke up. He was not interested in the reasoning, he said, it had not been done properly. Just because he was a foreigner, they wanted to "break him".
The proceedings were "a theater". Nothing has been proven. He would leave now. The judge and his defense lawyer tried in vain to calm him down. Flanked by two police officers, he left the courtroom.
