Driver of a stolen car arrested in Valais

The Valais police have arrested the suspected driver of a stolen vehicle and his passenger. The two had fled from a police checkpoint near Vionnaz VS a week ago.
During the subsequent chase towards the valley, a police officer fired two shots at the tires of the vehicle. The two people abandoned the car a few minutes later in a parking lot before continuing their escape on foot.
The passenger, a 29-year-old Swiss woman, was arrested in Torgon on October 9, according to the police. She has since been released.
Two days later, the cantonal police arrested the driver, a 28-year-old Swiss national. The public prosecutor's office ordered the detention of the suspected perpetrator for the duration of the investigation.
