Economic directors against the halving initiative

The Conference of Cantonal Directors of Economic Affairs is against the SVP's halving initiative. The SRG would not be able to fulfill its public service mandate in regional information dissemination with half the funding. This would weaken the democratic formation of opinion.
The language regions and rural cantons would be particularly hard hit, the conference announced on Thursday after its 80th annual meeting in Arbon TG. The halving initiative is currently being discussed in parliament.
In addition to their commitment to media coverage in the regions, the cantonal economic affairs ministers also want to campaign for the regions with regard to the basic postal service and the federal government's gigabit strategy, as they wrote. The Federal Council intends to submit proposals on these two topics for consultation in the winter.
In the EU dossier, the Conference of People's Directors (VDK) assured the Federal Council of its support in securing the level of wage protection together with the Conference of Cantonal Governments. Among the intercantonal conferences, the VDK is in charge of wage protection.
