Monday to Thursday in the office and then three days off: more and more employers want to attract new employees with part-time models and four-day weeks. Job advertisements for 80 percent workloads are on the rise.

In the last three years, the number of jobs advertised as 80 percent full-time has increased almost twenty-fold, the job portal Indeed reported on Friday. For some professions, every fifth job advertisement now mentions a four-day week, such as carpenters and fitters. However, because Indeed only examined those professions for which there are at least 100 job advertisements on Indeed, the part-time offer could be even higher for other professions that are advertised less frequently.

With the increase in part-time offers, the labor market is responding to an ever-growing demand, according to the press release. Indeed also evaluates the search queries. And these show: In the same period, searches for terms such as "80 percent job" or "four-day week" have increased by as much as 6400 percent, i.e. even more than the supply.

The study also shows that the four-day week has increased significantly in terms of both offers and requests, especially from May 2021. "This can be read as a reaction to the coronavirus pandemic, in which the issue of working conditions was raised much more strongly than before," Thomas Kaiser from Indeed Switzerland is quoted as saying in the press release.

However, especially in times of coronavirus, there were also many companies that introduced the model not just out of kindness to their employees. Some stopped hiring full-time employees during the pandemic in order to save money.
