Ex-Gazprombank employees want trial in Zurich to be dropped

The appeal hearing against four former employees of Gazprombank Switzerland began at the Zurich High Court on Monday morning. Their defense attorneys consider the indictment to be insufficient and are thus attempting to derail the trial.
The lawyers already consider the indictment to be completely inadequate, as they explained at the beginning of the hearing. The court is now discussing the corresponding motions of the defense lawyers.
The four former employees of Gazprombank Switzerland (GPBS) are accused of managing the accounts for a confidant of Russian President Vladimir Putin and thus breaching due diligence obligations.
Close confidant of Putin
It concerns the accounts of Sergey Roldugin. According to media reports, the Russian conductor and cellist is considered a close confidant of Putin. He was a client of the GPBS for years.
The Zurich District Court sentenced the defendants, including the then head of the bank, to conditional fines at the end of March last year.
