The explosion and fire in Nussbaumen AG on Thursday evening caused damage in the single-digit millions, according to initial estimates by the cantonal buildings insurance company. Twelve buildings were damaged.
The media office of Aargauische Gebäudeversicherung (AGV) did not want to provide more precise information on the extent of the damage when asked on Wednesday. Employees of the buildings insurance company are still on site and are documenting the damage, according to a press release.
According to the findings of the Aargau public prosecutor's office, powerful fireworks exploded on Thursday evening in a locked room on the floor of the underground garage of a block of flats in the village center of Nussbaumen.
It was very likely pyrotechnics on a scale not permitted in Switzerland. There were no indications of military explosives or similar so far.
