The online farm store Farmy is closing its location in western Switzerland at the end of June. This means that the company will now only be based in Zurich. In future, the majority of customers from French-speaking Switzerland will be supplied from there. The restructuring will result in the loss of 29 jobs.

The company is closing its second site and the warehouse in Ecublens near Lausanne at the end of June. The measures are necessary to make Farmy profitable and thus independent of further investments, the company announced on Tuesday. Shareholders and employees had already been informed in advance.

The online farm store justifies its realignment with changed market conditions. Despite already reducing operating costs in the past year, the company feels compelled to implement further cost-saving measures and restructure its operating business.

Sales decline of 22 percent

The majority of customers from French-speaking Switzerland will be supplied from the warehouse in Zurich in future. However, the restructuring means the end for some zip codes, as these are too remote or there is no possibility of serving them via a third-party provider, it continues.

Farmy puts the resulting drop in sales in French-speaking Switzerland at 22%. The changeover will reportedly take place at the end of June. From then on, customers in French-speaking Switzerland will no longer be supplied with products from local producers and farmers, but will receive the range from producers who supply the hub in Zurich.

Dismissal of 29 employees

The decision will lead to a reduction of 29 employees. The mass redundancy procedure has been initiated, but all options are being examined to keep the employees on and to make any redundancies as socially acceptable as possible, according to the statement.

According to the press release, the consultation process will run until June 5, 2024, and all notices of termination will be given in compliance with the statutory notice periods as of June 6, 2024.
