At its delegates' meeting on Saturday, the FDP voted in favor of the Young Liberals' pension initiative by 328 votes to 3 with 2 abstentions. On the other hand, the FDP rejected a 13th AHV pension by 323 votes to 2 with 11 abstentions.

During the discussion, Zug FDP cantonal councillor Jill Nussbaumer expressed her astonishment that the left was engaging in "window-dressing" regarding the state of the AHV. "But I'm even more surprised that young people are allowing the costs to be borne by the next generation."

The Young Liberals' pension initiative proposes, among other things, raising the retirement age to 66 by 2032 and then linking it to life expectancy. It is opposed to the second proposal for a 13th AHV pension, which will also be put to a popular vote on March 3, 2024. The initiative for 13 AHV pensions instead of just 12 was launched by the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB) and women's and pensioners' organizations.
