Federal and state governments want to maintain border controls for the time being

The federal and state governments want to continue controls at several German borders until further notice. Germany currently controls its borders with Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria. "These internal border controls will be maintained", according to a resolution paper from the Conference of Minister Presidents, which was published in Berlin on Tuesday night. "The German states concerned and the federal police are working closely together to combat smuggling and irregular immigration," it continues.
