The Federal Costume Festival 2024 opened at Zurich Main Station on Friday lunchtime: 100,000 visitors from all over Switzerland are expected by Sunday.
To mark the official start of the Federal Festival of Traditional Costumes (ETF), the Stadtmusik Zürich played with tambourines in the hall of Zurich's main railway station - beginning, of course, with the Sechseläuten March. This was followed by the opening parade, which included 26 pairs of traditional costumes from all cantons.
At the ETF in Zurich, music and tradition can be experienced, enjoyed and shaped over the course of three days, the organizers announced. There will be five festival sites and seven free stages.
The city of Zurich is hosting the ETF for the third time after 1939 and 1974. One of the many highlights of the event is the big parade on Sunday. However, the focus is also on cultural exchange at the various festival sites throughout the event.
