Federal Councillor Beat Jans: “Gap in Basel government council well filled”

Following the counting of postal votes for the election to replace Mustafa Atici on the Basel cantonal government council, the SP candidate has been declared the most likely candidate. His predecessor and current Federal Councillor Beat Jans (SP) speaks of a "wise decision by the people".
Speaking at the Congress Center in Basel, Jans expressed his satisfaction with the emerging election result. The people of Basel had made a wise decision, he told the Keystone-SDA news agency. "The gap I left behind has been well filled."
Even though the distance between him and his opponent Luca Urgese (FDP) has narrowed, Atici was very happy and satisfied with the result. He assumed that many voters had decided not to cast a vote after the first round due to the clear starting position, as he told the Keystone-SDA news agency.
According to the interim results, Atici is 2744 votes ahead of Urgese.
