On Monday, President Viola Amherd and Justice Minister Beat Jans condemned the knife attack on a Jewish man in Zurich in no uncertain terms.

No form of racism and no form of anti-Semitism is accepted in Switzerland, said Jans, head of the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP), on Monday on the fringes of a meeting in Brussels.

"I would like to express my sympathy to the injured person and their relatives," continued the Federal Councillor. He very much hoped that the injured person would recover.

He will do his utmost to ensure that such an act does not happen again in Switzerland. When asked about additional measures to protect the Jewish population in Switzerland, Jans said that additional resources were planned, but not as a result of the event.

In response to a journalist's question, Jans said that he did not yet have any definite information about the perpetrator's background. This was part of the investigation being conducted by the canton of Zurich. These investigations should also clarify whether it was a lone perpetrator or whether an organized group was involved.

She was shocked by the knife attack in Zurich, Amherd said on X. "My thoughts are with the injured man and our Jewish fellow citizens. Anti-Semitism has no place in Switzerland," continued the President of the Swiss Confederation. The judiciary must clarify the facts and take its course.
