The Swiss Federal Office of Police (Fedpol) has launched a "Request for Information" (RFI) to investigate potential replacements for its current Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) which is due to be replaced by the end of 2026. The new system is expected to be operational by the beginning of 2027 and the Federal Council has allocated 25 million Swiss francs for the project. The new system should include both fingerprint and palm print identification as well as face recognition. It is estimated that the current system processes 340,000 identification requests per year, while the new system should be able to process up to 1 million faces. The RFI is not a prelude to a tender, but is instead intended to gather information and ensure equal opportunities for companies.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
