The food retailer Tegut, based in Fulda, has to make savings and cut jobs. A total of 120 full-time positions in central services will be cut and new operators will be sought for around ten percent of the stores, the parent company Genossenschaft Migros Zürich announced. In addition, Managing Director Thomas Gutberlet, who had been in the post since 2009, will leave the company. Most recently, Tegut had around 340 stores in Germany, employing around 7,700 people.
"Tegut has not succeeded in exploiting the existing market potential in recent years," Migros Zurich added. "The company's sales and profitability performance has been inadequate." The sustainable positioning of Tegut is currently struggling. "It is very regrettable that Tegut employees have to leave the company. It is very important to us to implement the redundancies in the most socially responsible way possible," said Patrik Pörtig, Managing Director of the Migros Cooperative Zurich.
