For the FDP, former Finance Minister Ueli Maurer (SVP/ZH) is responsible for the Credit Suisse debacle. Under his leadership, the Federal Department of Finance was asleep in the crucial years before the crisis.
He failed to set up a liquidity safety net, the FDP wrote in a press release on Friday. The former SVP Federal Councillor had also failed to inform the Federal Council transparently and take the necessary measures.
FDP Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter immediately took on responsibility when she moved to the Ministry of Finance. Under her leadership, the authorities succeeded in averting an international financial crisis, the report continued.
The FDP is also calling for the right lessons to be learned from the downfall of Credit Suisse. According to the party, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA should consistently fulfill its core mandate of supervision.
