This year, federal funding for herd protection measures on Switzerland's alpine farms should be sufficient. This was announced by Federal Councillor Albert Rösti on Monday during question time in the National Council.
Rösti said in the large chamber that the application deadline for the measures during the 2024 summering period was still running. So far, there are no signs of a shortage of funds. The seven million francs granted by Parliament should be sufficient.
Last year, federal funding for livestock protection was already exhausted by mid-2023, as Bernese SVP National Councillor Ernst Wandfluh explained. This was due to many requests. Rösti commented that ultimately no applications for funding from the cantons had to be rejected. This was thanks to credit increases by Parliament.
