German finance minister: Putin tortured Navalny to death

German Finance Minister Christian Lindner has reacted with shock to the death of Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny.
"Alexei Navalny fought for a democratic Russia. Putin tortured him to death for it," wrote the leader of the liberal FDP on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday. This is new proof of "the criminal character of this regime". After his death, Navalny will continue to give hope to all those who are fighting for a different Russia.
Lindner had called for Navalny's release every Sunday since 2021 on Twitter and later on X. Among other things, he counted his days in prison. Most recently, he wrote on February 11: "Alexei Navalny has been in prison for 1119 days." The way the opposition is treated in Russia should not be forgotten.
