The use of the Glaubenberg OW military camp as a temporary federal asylum center will be extended by three years. The agreement was originally due to expire in June 2025.

The Obwalden government and the Sarnen municipal council have agreed to a corresponding extension, as announced by the canton of Obwalden on Wednesday. The 340 places will now be available to the federal government until June 2028. The contractual framework conditions remain the same.

The primary school program at the federal asylum center will also continue. The school offer has proven its worth and offers the children a daily structure, according to the press release. The federal government is contributing to the teaching costs.

The agreement with the canton of Lucerne for the enforcement of deportations will also be extended, it was also reported. As before, the canton of Lucerne will receive compensation for this.

As before, the canton of Obwalden will receive location compensation for operating the center. In return, fewer asylum seekers will be allocated to it for accommodation.
