Bern's Gurtenfestival enters its 41st round today, Wednesday. Up to and including Saturday, 135 acts will perform on the "Güsche", including cult band Patent Ochsner and Canadian pop great Nelly Furtado.
Also announced as headliners are rapper Stormzy from London, German reggae hip-hopper Peter Fox, Afrobeat musician Burna Boy and electro duo Justice. They will all be playing on the main stage, the largest of the seven stages.
Two ESC celebrities perform
As usual, the Waldbühne is reserved for Swiss musicians and should be particularly well attended on Thursday, when Biel's superstar Nemo will perform the Eurovision Song Contest victory anthem "The Code".
Another well-known Eurovision face will be performing on the tent stage on the first day of the festival. Joost Klein is standing in for the duo Sofi Tukker, who had to cancel due to illness. His person is controversial: The Dutch artist was excluded from the ESC final after allegedly verbally threatening a camera woman, according to TV station Avrotros. Despite this, his song "Europapa" went through the roof.
Almost only sun expected
It is undisputed that the shade of the tent stage will come in handy. MeteoSwiss is forecasting between 25 and 30 degrees and plenty of sunshine over the four days of the festival. There is only a risk of rain during the night from Saturday to Sunday.
If you don't want to climb the "Güsche" on foot in the hot temperatures and have the patience for waiting times, you can also reach the festival building this year using a newly renovated means of transportation.
The Gurtenbahn went into operation in May with an obstacle-free valley station and new vehicles. And there is music there too: once a day, a Swiss act plays a short concert in the funicular.
