According to the Islamist organization, Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip do not want to voluntarily leave the sealed-off coastal strip in view of the increased deployment of Israel's army. "It's either victory or martyrdom," a Hamas source told the DPA news agency in Beirut on Wednesday.

Gaza is their land and the blood of the leaders is no more valuable than that of the people. One of the Israeli military's most important war aims is to track down Hamas leaders in the coastal area.

More than 100 days after the start of the Gaza war following the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7, which left 1200 dead, several leaders of the terrorist militia are still in the Gaza Strip. They are believed to be in the huge network of underground tunnels beneath the Gaza Strip. This poses an enormous challenge for the Israeli armed forces. The army's main focus is on Jihia al-Sinwar, who is the head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, the terrorist organization reiterated that it rejects a two-state solution. The solution is to get rid of the occupation, said the former Hamas chairman, Chaled Mashaal, according to a statement. "Our Palestinian people demand liberation, freedom from the occupation, independence and the establishment of a Palestinian state." The existence of Israel is "categorically" rejected.

The two-state solution means that Israel and an independent, democratic Palestinian state live peacefully side by side. It has always been seen as a solution to the long-simmering conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken once again advocated a two-state solution. However, this is considered unrealistic, at least for the time being.
