The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) is making a new attempt at a federal asylum center in the canton of Schwyz. It is planning a facility for 170 people in Arth on the site of the Buosingen campsite. It informed the public on Wednesday evening.
The SEM originally wanted to build a federal asylum center for the Central Switzerland/Ticino asylum region in Schwyz with 340 places, but met with great resistance. Now a center half the size is to be built in Arth on the site of the Buosingen campsite, which is being abandoned.
Hundreds of people attended the information event in the triple gymnasium in Oberarth. In front of the hall, Treichler protested against the center and a banner demanded "Remigration".
Ruedi Beeler (center), mayor of Arth, said that since the SEM's plans became known, the world in Arth was no longer the same. Now the information vacuum could be filled. SEM head Christine Schraner Burgener showed understanding for the fact that a federal asylum center raises questions.
