The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (Sust) has opened an investigation into a derailed railroad carriage on the Rhaetian Railway's Bernina line. The wagon, which was parked at Bernina Lagalb station, rolled towards Pontresina during the night and derailed after passing through Bernina Suot.

The railroad carriage was parked in Bernina Lagalb on the night of June 22, 2024, as Sust wrote in a preliminary report on the investigation on Monday. Four minutes later, the carriage rolled towards Pontresina.

The railroad carriage and a construction vehicle loaded onto it suffered a total loss in the derailment. In addition, two catenary masts were torn away and a switch and a roadway were damaged. According to the press release, no people were injured in the accident.

Rail traffic on the Bernina line between Pontresina GR and Poschiavo GR was interrupted for two days following the derailment of the train carriage.
