Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amirabdollahian has met with UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths in Geneva. They discussed the possible consequences of the war in Gaza, Griffiths said after the meeting in Geneva on Wednesday. They agreed on the danger of the war spreading.
"I am concerned about an expansion of the war in the north. If there is a war between Hezbollah (in Lebanon) and Israel, I fear the worst," Griffiths said. "The concerns about expansion was the issue we talked about mostly, and of course he agreed with me that expansion would not be good."
Since the beginning of the Gaza war on October 7, there have been repeated confrontations on the border between Israel and Lebanon between the Israeli army and the Shiite militia Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran. There have already been casualties on both sides. It is the most serious escalation since the second Lebanon war in 2006. Israel has warned Hezbollah that the Lebanese capital Beirut faces a similar fate to Gaza if the attacks continue.
