In the Lucerne jewelry robbery trial on Monday, the suspected robber played down the role of alleged accomplices. He claims to have planned the robbery of a Lucerne jewelry store alone.

According to the public prosecutor, the robbery at the Gübelin store on Schwanenplatz in 2019 was organized and carried out by several men working together. A 57-year-old and a 38-year-old co-defendant are said to have been in charge of the planning.

The 46-year-old defendant contradicted this when questioned by the court. One of the co-defendants had no prior knowledge of the robbery, but had helped him to get out of the situation, he said. The other only knew his plan and helped him to hire an accomplice for the robbery.

The same is said to have applied to a 50-year-old co-defendant, in whose apartment he deposited the loot worth 20 million francs after the robbery. He was the only person he knew in Lucerne, the accused said. Nobody in the brothel where he lived knew what he was up to either.
