Auroras were once again spotted over Switzerland on Sunday night. However, they were significantly weaker than the night before, as the weather service Meteonews reported on Sunday morning.
The auroras were mainly visible from the mountains, Meteonews reported on the online platform X. According to the report, the colorful phenomenon was visible in eastern Switzerland from the Pizol and Säntis mountains.
The weather service had already announced on Saturday that there was a chance of seeing auroras across the Swiss night sky again on Sunday night. At the beginning of the week, the chances were lower again.
Northern lights are generally rare in the Alpine region. On Saturday night, the lights were widely visible from the lowlands. The natural phenomenon is caused by solar storms that hit the Earth's magnetic field. The stronger the solar winds, the more southerly the northern lights are visible.
